Perhaps one of the best meals I've ever had. Yes I am dramatic. I'm writing this review as soon as we pulled out the parking lot, everything we tried was amazing and our server was equally as great. Thanks Juan !
My wife and I dined at Shimogamo for the first time this evening. We opted to try to omakase and it was a phenomenal meal from start to finish. Our waiter Juan was knowledgeable and kept the meal paced perfectly. All of the food was amazing and we will definitely be coming back!
Tried the omakase at this restaurant and was absolutely blown away by the quality. The sushi and sashimi were incredibly fresh, with each bite offering its own unique and delicious flavor. The Wagyu beef was cooked to perfection; rich, tender, and full of flavor. Other standouts included the crab leg tempura, fresh oysters, and a refreshing shaved ice to end the meal. Dishes were served at a perfect pace, and the server took time to introduce each course, which was a thoughtful and appreciated touch. The restaurant itself is spacious, with an authentic Japanese sushi bar at the front that adds to the experience. It's clearly a local favorite, the place was nearly full during dinner time. Every dish was top-notch, and I'll definitely be coming back!
Shimogamo absolutely delivered. From the moment I walked in to the moment I slurped the last bit of my shrimp tempura broth, the service was on point kind, attentive and overall very welcoming without being over bearing. I came in for a solo dining experience and left feeling like I treated myself to something truly special. The snow crab sunomono was light and refreshing, the nigiri was fresh and beautifully prepared, and that tempura udon? Pure comfort in a bowl. Finished it all off with the matcha tiramisu I'm smiling right now as I type reflecting on this meal. Each dish felt thoroughly made and full of flavor. Highly recommend this place whether you're going for a chill night or sharing a great meal on a date. Shimogamo hits that sweet spot of relaxed atmosphere and top tier food. Already thinking about what I'll try next time.
Shimogamo is a gem in the Chandler area serving an authentic Japanese dining experience! This spot is located in a plaza with a good amount of parking spots. Reservations are highly recommended as tables do tend to fill up pretty fast. Wifey and I pulled up with dinner reservations for 8:30pm and were seated right away upon arrival. Inside, they have a dimly lit interior with about 6-8 tables and bar seating. For their menu, they have a wide range of items including: specialty items, small bites, nigiri, sashimi, signature rolls, and classic rolls. We opted for a spread consisting of the Citrus Rolls, Surf N' Turf Rolls, Chirashi Bowl, Crispy Truffle Crab, Uni Oxtail Toast, Chateaubriand Wagyu, and the Snow Crab Tempura. Everything that we had was beautifully presented and tasted outstanding! Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here. All of the staff are very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend trying some of their signature rolls and their wagyu!
My wife and I, and our son and his girlfriend, had dinner at Shimogamo Chandler to celebrate our son's first real job. For the first time since we've been dining at Shimogamo, we ate at a table, instead of at the sushi counter. Our server, Micah, was terrific. She clearly knew the restaurant, the menu, the food and the drinks. We started with an excellent sake, Ippongi Dai Ichi Gitai, that was presented by the bar manager, Matt. We ordered a huge assortment of mostly nigiri sushi; Madai (Sea Bream), Mejina (Opaleye Bream), Kamasu (Japanese Barracuda), Kinmedai (Goldeneye Snapper), Aji (Jack Mackerel), Umi Masu (Ocean Trout), Hotate (Sea Scallop), Anago (Sea Eel), Ama Ebi (Sweet Shrimp), Baja Uni (Sea Urchin sashimi) and Santa Barbara Uni (Sea Urchin gunkan). Micah had the chefs course our fish selections perfectly. After the sushi, we had the Hatcho Miso Duck, Yuzu Mushrooms and Fried Shishito Peppers. For dessert, my son and I tried the Harvest in Uji and Matcha Hai cocktails. Everything that we had to eat and drink was delicious. If I had known that they had Kakigori (Japanese Shave Ice) for dessert, I would have saved room for it. That's one more reason to return for another meal, I guess.
Shimogamo Japanese Restaurant is one of the best spots in Chandler for sushi. We usually order the Yuzu Mushroom (though the leaf garnish was wilted and old this time), Truffle Kanpachi, Hirame Usuzukuri, Premium Nigiri, and Zen & Citrus rolls. While the flavors were great as usual, the rolls weren't up to standard--the rice was too wet, and they fell apart easily. This might have been due to a Tuesday. Normally, I'd give 5 stars for this place, but due to this, I'll give it 4. The service, however, was excellent as always.
We came for omakase and we ate lots of delicious food. We had many sushi nigiri wtih variety of fishes and other ingredients. The fried whole fishes are delicious. The last highlight of the meal is the chocolate shaved ice that the ice came from Japan. I was already full at that point but the shaved ice kept calling my name. There are lots of food that I could not remember how many courses are in this omakase. The price is reasonable and the service is fast.
